Ryan Wurmser

Ryan Wurmser is a full-time studio-artist, writer, and teacher. His work has been exhibited in numerous venues including the following: Forbes Gallery/NY, Colorado History Museum, Denver Museum of Art, Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University, Pasadena Museum of Art, USC Fisher Museum of Art, and Carnegie Art Museum.

Wurmser was honored with the Gold Medal for Best Painting at the California Art Club’s 95th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition at the Pasadena Museum of Art. He received the Grand Prize at the “Artists for the New Century” Exhibit, Bennington Center for the Arts in Vermont. Recently he was awarded the Portrait Commission of Lord Martin CECIL (William Martin Alleyne Cecil, 7th Marquess of Exeter) for the Burghley House, Stamford, Lincolnshire, England.

Wurmser attended Art Center College of Design on a merit scholarship. He has studied extensively at many other academies including California Art Institute, Associates in Art (Mark Westermoe), Steve Huston Studio, LAAFA—Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, Andreeva Academy (Yuqi Wang), Studio Escalier (Gericault Studio, Paris, France/Argenton Chateau, France), and L’Ecole de Albert Defois (Ted Seth Jacobs, Les Cerqueux, France). He has taught and/or conducted workshops at the following institutions: California Art Institute, Andreeva Academy, LAAFA—Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art, and BACAA—Bay Area Classical Art Atelier.

He also worked as conceptual and visual development artist for the studios, mostly theme park and entertainment. A brief list of clients includes Landmark Entertainment Group, Disney Imagineering, Spectra Entertainment, Renaissance Entertainment, Universal Studios, Paramount Studios, and Sideshow Collectibles.

In addition to various writing projects, Wurmser is co-authoring a three-volume book with Dr. Thomas H. Kepner, ART-SCI: The Consilience of Art & Science. He is the Founder and Director of STUDIO 909/Contemporary Figurative Atelier. He lives and works in Los Angeles.
