This class is specifically designed for beginning painters. Afraid to dive into the world of oil painting? Don’t worry, this class will give step by step instructions from the initial application, to how to use the mediums, as well as how to create volume and form, just to name a few. We will doing paintings in Grisaille (Black and white) to allow students the ability to manipulate the paint without worrying about color combinations. We will be starting off with a simple sphere and progressing to other more complex objects. Each class will build on the information and knowledge from the previous lesson. - 3-4 8×10 canvases or 9×12 canvas paper (if you choose canvas paper you will need an art board and masking tape)
- Nitram charcoal B(soft)
- Ivory Black (Sennelier or Windsor Newton brand)
- Titanium white (Windsor newton or Michael Harding brand)
- Raw Umber (Windsor Newton brand)
- Variety of oil painting brushes sizes 00-12 (you don’t have to have all sizes just make sure you have at least 2 small, 2 medium, and two large brushes.
- Gamsol odorless Mineral Spirits
- Dammar Varnish (Windsor Newton brand)
- Linseed oil refined or cold pressed (Windsor Newton brand)
- Medium cup
- Pallet knife
- Kneaded eraser
- 3 Dropper bottles (one for each medium) or just droppers

Andrea Mosley is a classically trained artist that studied at the atelier Angel Academy of Art in Florence, Italy for four years under the training of world-renowned artist, John Angel, who himself was a student of the great Pietro Annigoni. Andrea, having won first place in the international 2009 Art Renewal Center Scholarship Competition, also received an honorable mention and was a finalist in the Art Renewal Center 2009 Salon. She was one of 20 international students to be awarded free tuition and board in the Hudson River School summer painting course in 2008.
After completing the Fundamental Program at Angel Academy, she received a scholarship to complete their master portrait painting graduate program. While home in California, Andrea continues to teach art at college level, as well as teaching students privately in her studio.
