This hands-on highly interactive class is for all skill levels and offers a practical approach to mixing a wide range of colors from a limited palette. Through guided mixing exercises, master copies, lectures and demos you will explore color theory through analyzing mixing strategies and palette choices to create vivid and personal watercolor paintings. We will explore together how other artists use color effectively and learn how to apply their strategies to your own work.
A virtual room link will be sent to you up to 24 hours prior to your class start date. A short tutorial will be given prior to the live class starting.
Unable to attend a sessions? No worries, ALL students will have access to watch the recorded session for 10-days. Recording available 1 day after live session.
- Watercolor Sketchbook or pad – smooth surface like Moleskine watercolor sketchbook. Also Canson and Strathmore are good brands.
- 1 COTMAN half-inch angled shader watercolor brush
- 1 Tube artists gouache in white

Amanda Mears studied in London at Turps Art School, and then here at LAAFA for 3 years. She exhibits her work in Los Angeles and London and has taught Beginning Drawing and Painting fundamental classes for several years at LAAFA, as well as privately in her Culver City studio and at a Los Angeles school. She is currently earning her Master of Fine Arts degree on a full scholarship at Claremont Graduate University.
