Still Life Painting

(Starts July 18th – 10wks)

In this course we will learn to paint the still life using light, color, and edge quality to achieve a strong focal point. We will also learn to mix color, the proper use of warms and cools, and different brush techniques to achieve a natural impression of the still life.


Landscape/Plein Air Painting
(Starts July 17th – 5wks)

Saturday, TIME CHANGE 9am-1pm


Always with the great California outdoors as inspiration, students focus on learning to duplicate the exact light of day, interpret the landscape into meaningful shapes and color patterns, and how to capture the essence of the world around them. Each week the class meets at a different location, with the first course meeting on campus. Please Note: You will be required to drive to various locations, and occasionally pay parking fees and park fees as part of this course. We will explore the basic techniques and concepts of Plein Air painting such as, value, shape, edges and color, composition, color mixing, brushwork, blending


Analytical Figure Drawing
(Starts July 17th – 10wks)
Instructor: Kirk Shinmoto
Saturday, 10am-1pm

The goal of this class is to develop your understanding of the human form, both in how it moves and how it is constructed. Emphasis will also be placed on considering the whole figure as a complete idea, as well as designing what we see to make a clearer and more concise statement. Developing good drawing habits is also stressed.
