Basic drawing skills recommended.

Sketching For Design with Amanda Mears

Good design is at the heart of every successful drawing, painting, storyboard or sketchbook page. This hands-on workshop breaks down the design process from first thumbnail to finished project with a focus on strategies to expand your artistic vocabulary.  Students will learn how to use a viewfinder to create dynamic cropping and framing. We will explore the process of designing engaging compositions by using strong abstract shapes with a focus on value, as well as gaining an understanding of widely used fundamental picture design strategies. An artist’s sketchbook is a doorway to the artist’s imagination – a place to work out ideas, record scenes, practice techniques and ultimately to find your own personal voice as a creative. Painting Elements with Andrea Mosley

In this class we will be choosing different elements such as wood, metal, glass, cloth etc and going over the process of how to capture the essence of each element. These will in essence be small still life paintings, focusing on one element per week, so each class can stand alone. Students will be given a demonstration, followed by time to paint for themselves. After a review of each students work there will be another demonstration of common mistakes and how to fix them. Basic drawing skills recommended.

Head Drawing with Chris Soohoo

Through demonstration and constructive critique, students will learn to draw the human head with an emphasis on achieving a sense of three dimensionality and structural solidity. Exploring all the unique characteristics that make them ferocious, delicate, and beautiful. I will demonstrate different methods of drawing using a myriad of tools such as pens, markers, pencils, inks, and watercolor. We will discuss related concepts such as perspective, proportions, and gestural drawing. We will also talk about ideas behind breaking down the ways of seeing and drawing, depicting the simple lines, shapes, and forms of visual information. Great for all skill levels.

Watercolor Imagination with Chris Soohoo

We will address the challenges and techniques of watercolor, as well as tips and processes which can help streamline the endeavor. Great for all skill levels.

Portfolio Prep with Andrew Park

This class will help students build a strong, diverse, and personal portfolio that the students can be excited about while also showcasing the student’s talents and interests. We will be geared differently per student. The projects will not be the same for the entire class but will differ based on the student’s interests, career plan, and college preference. The class will mainly be one-on-one critiques while the other students work on their portfolio. A group critique will be done at the end of every class in order to grow confidence in showing and talking about your own work as well as being inspired by your peers’ works.
